Reconciliation
Reconciliation in Australia is the process of strengthening relationships between First Nations and non-Indigenous people, and involves recognising and acknowledging that First Nations people are the traditional owners of the whole of Australia, and that past injustices have led to present-day consequences for First Nations people.
The Canberra Printmakers acknowledges (and is committed to continuing) the work required for reconciliation to be achieved. This includes supporting the protection and revitalisation of First Nations language, valuing and celebrating First Nations culture/cultural heritage, and recognising that this culture and heritage is a part of a shared national identity.
Many of our members have been fortunate enough to work with First Nations artists as editioning printers or artistic collaborators, and we look forward to developing further opportunities for collaboration between our members and First Nations artists and organisations.
We also welcome and encourage membership applications from First Nations Australians.
Please note: the images displayed on this page were printed by one of our members for an artist who has since passed away. To read about the artist and the exhibition they were printed for (recognising the artist’s name is mentioned), please visit: Beyond the Blue: Unbroken
