Rowena Evans

Rowena Evans grew up in an artistic family in Sydney, thinking that art and writing were normal jobs.

She lives and works on Ngarigo, Ngambri/ Ngunnawal and Djiringanj lands. After graduating BA Visual Arts from UNSW/ City Art Institute, majoring in drawing and printmaking, she worked as an artist, illustrator and writer.

From 2020 Rowena undertook postgraduate visual art studies at the Australian National University in order to develop her interest in art that emerges from and is located in familiar and meaningful places, graduating MCPAD with commendation in 2024.

She uses various methods of investigation and media in her art including walking, observing, collecting, recording, printmaking, drawing and object making.

In 2008 she received a mentorship from the Australian Society of Authors for a picture book project, and has published three novels for young readers with a small Australian publisher.

On graduation from ANU Rowena received three ACT Emerging Artist Support Scheme awards and as a result in 2025 enjoyed a residency at Megalo Print Studio, Canberra, and solo exhibitions at Belconnen Arts Centre and Grainger Gallery.

She has also exhibited in the Snowy Mountains region. Works are held in the collection of the ANU Drill Hall Gallery, the Queensland Art Gallery and private collections in Australia and Germany.
